[March 6, 2026] Hokkaido University to Host Seminar: “The Intersection of GX and Nature-Positive — Breakthroughs in Resolving Trade-offs” (Organized by Makaira KK) 2026.02.03

Makaira KK is pleased to announce that Hokkaido University will host a seminar titled “The Intersection of GX and Nature-Positive — Breakthroughs in Resolving Trade-offs” on Friday, March 6, 2026. Makaira KK serves as the operating partner for this event.

In November 2023, Hokkaido University held its inaugural seminar, “Lessons from GX and the Future of Nature-Positive,” which explored the challenges and potential of measuring the value of natural capital. Building on that foundation, this second seminar advances the discussion toward the implementation phase, addressing the increasingly urgent and practical challenges of balancing environmental objectives.

Addressing the Implementation Gap

Decarbonization (Green Transformation, GX) and biodiversity conservation (Nature-Positive) are both essential pillars of a sustainable future. However, in real-world implementation, these goals often give rise to complex trade-offs, where progress in one area may unintentionally hinder the other.

Drawing on the scientific expertise of Hokkaido University, this seminar will examine the underlying structure of these trade-offs and explore pathways to overcome them. Experts from industry, government, and academia will engage in discussion on how to move beyond theoretical dialogue toward effective institutional design and practical solutions. In addition, Hokkaido University will introduce its framework for industry–government–academia collaboration, aimed at translating dialogue into real-world action.
